Three Tigers Chosen as Performers of the Week

Nashville, Tenn. – Daniel Fitzpatrick, A.C. Leonard and De’Ante Saunders of the Tennessee State football team were chosen as Top Performers of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for their roles in TSU’s 26-16 victory over Jackson State on Saturday.

Fitzpatrick tallied one tackle against JSU, but had the game icing play when he returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown. The junior’s pick was the fifth of six turnovers forced by the TSU defense on Saturday.

Leonard made Tight End Performer of the Week after catching a pair of passes for 37 yards. The Jacksonville, Fla. native now has a team-leading 11 receptions for 97 yards this year.

For Saunders, the ex-Florida Gator racked up five stops including a pair of tackles for loss against the Tigers of JSU. “Pop” also came away with an interception in the end zone and raced 71 yards up the field before being stopped. Saunders finished the game with 116 all-purpose yards.

TSU has now had four players win CFPA weekly awards this season, as Martine Stevenson won Returner of the Week following the game against Florida A&M.
