Tigers Finish Second in Final Boxtorow Coaches Poll

Nashville, Tenn. – Following a 10-4 season, the Tennessee State football team finished second in the final Boxtorow coaches’ poll by one single point.

The Tigers accrued 158 points to finish 22 above 9-4 South Carolina State. Bethune-Cookman, which beat TSU 12-9 in this season’s opening game for both teams, took home the 2013 HBCU National Football Championship with 159 points.

Big Blue made the Division I Football Playoffs for the first time since 1999 and beat Butler, 31-0, for the school’s first opening-round victory in 27 years.

TSU also had a record, 12 players selected to all-conference teams, as the Tigers finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 6-2 mark in league games.

The one point separating the top two teams is the smallest margin in the poll’s five-year history.
