Writers Association names German Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State quarterback Michael German  was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association offensive football player of the week for his efforts on September 15.

German completed 27-of-36 passes for a career-high 318 yards and three touchdowns in TSU’s return to on-campus Hale Stadium in a 34-14 victory over Austin Peay. The 27 completions was a career-high for the sophomore and the three touchdown passes equaled his career-best set last season against UT Martin.

The Pompano Beach, Fla., native completed a 27-yard pass for a touchdown to Travis James in the second quarter, a four-yard touchdown pass to Johntae Gleaves to begin the fourth period and ended the game with a 51-yard strike to A.C. Leonard with 2:12 to play to account for the final margin. He earned OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors and became the first TSU quarterback to throw for more than 318 yards since Riley Walker’s 381-yard effort in 2004 against Jacksonville State.

German has completed 58-of-92 passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns and two interceptions in 2012. He currently ranks 23rd nationally in passing efficiency (142.19) and 30th in total offense (236.33 yards/game). The Tigers have started the season 3-0 for the first time since 2008 and head to Bethune-Cookman this Saturday.
