Carter and Gaines Earn FCS All-American Recognition

Nashville, Tenn. - A pair of Tennessee State University offensive linemen racked up preseason FCS All-American honors this week. Phil Steele Magazine named center Sherman Carter and guard Rogers Gaines to All-American accolades on Wednesday.

In the preseason prognostication, Gaines earned second team All-American recognition and Carter earned fourth team All-American status.

Carter, a LaVergne High School product, led the Tigers has started 23 consecutive games for the Big Blue. Last season, Carter graded out 85 to 88 percent with five knockdowns. The senior named second team All-Ohio Valley Conference by the coaches and sports information directors in 2011.

Gaines, a native of Goodlettsville, has played in 19 games the past two seasons. Last year, Gaines graded out 86 to 90 percent each game and finished with six pancakes per contest. He was also selected second team All-OVC.
