Tiger Camp: Extra Time Well Spent

Nashville, Tenn. – With the first game of the season always coinciding with the end of the off-season, teams have a little extra time to prepare for that first game compared with a normal game during the season. But how much difference does it make for Tennessee State?

"It’s a little different," head coach Rod Reed explained. "You always want a constant focus on what you do. Those first couple of weeks of camp, we tried to get in and make sure we were taking care of TSU business. Now, we’re about the business of FAMU. Everything that we’re doing from this point forward is geared towards Florida A&M."

While most starting spots are already set, there is a position or two that is still up in the air.

"We’ve got a lot of talent over there at tight end," said Reed, "so I don’t know if we can name a starter there."

Situationally, coach Reed has been impressed with what the defense has done on third down.

"Offensively, we’ve converted the ones we’re supposed to convert, but the defense has stopped them on some third and mediums. They have also stopped them on some third and long situations, but those the defense should win. I think the offense has held its own, but we are doing a pretty good job in all situations. We’ve hit on every situation imaginable to football right now."

The Tigers return to the practice field early Friday morning at 7:45 a.m.
