Football Summer Camp Series set to host Music City Shootout

Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University will hold the last two components of the 2011 Football Summer Camp Series on Saturday, July 23, at 9:30 a.m. inside Hale Stadium.

The Music City Shootout will feature the 7-on-7 tournament and the OL/DL (O-Line/D-Line) Camp on the campus of TSU.

Last year, the camp featured more than 50 individuals participating in the OL/DL Camp and 10 teams competing in the 7-on-7 tourney. RECAP...

The 7-on-7 tournament will be a helmet only camp. High school teams and individual participants will play a minimum of four games before earning a seed in the tournament. 

After the initial rounds, a single elimination tournament will begin. The tournament will conclude with the crowning of the 2011 Music City Showdown Champs. Each team will have at least seven players, but it is recommended that each team consist of 10-20.

High school teams slated to participate include: Cane Ridge HS (Antioch, Tenn.), Springfield HS (Springfield, Tenn.), Union City HS (Union City, Tenn.), Antioch HS, (Antioch, Tenn.), Hillsboro HS (Nashville, Tenn.), West Creek HS (Clarksville, Tenn.), Maplewood HS (Nashville, Tenn.) Hunters Lane HS (Nashville, Tenn.), Stratford HS (Nashville, Tenn.), Pearl Cohn HS (Nashville, Tenn.), Whites Creek HS (Nashville, Tenn.), Mitchell HS (Memphis, Tenn.), Johnson HS (Huntsville, Ala.), Westwood HS (Memphis, Tenn.), Austin East HS (Knoxville, Tenn.), Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Brainerd HS (Chattanooga, Tenn.).

For the OL/DL Camp, participants will be responsible for bringing their own helmets, pads, and jerseys.

Lineman will have the opportunity to compete against east other in competitions to see who will earn the title of the Music City Big Man. The day will consist of instructions and drills from the coaching staff.

The Music City Shootout: 7-on-7 Tournament and OL/DL Camp follows the first pair of the 2011 Football Summer Camp Series. The Rod Reed Lil' Tiger Camp was held June 13-16 followed by the Prospect Camp on June 18. RECAP...
