German and Godfrey Garner Weekly OVC Honors
Tennessee State University's Michael German and Jamin Godfrey were honored on Sunday by the OVC as the adidas Newcomer and Specialist of the week, respectively, after the Tigers recorded a 55-3 victory over Southeast Missouri on Saturday.   

German earned the Newcomer of the Week accolade for the second consecutive week, completing 20 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns against the Redhawks.

The redshirt freshman quarterback connected on a 25 and 30 yard touchdowns to Calvin McNairl as the Tigers snapped a nine-game losing skid in the OVC.

German has not thrown an interception in 102 pass attempts this season. In the past two games, the Pompano Beach, Fla., native has completed 41 passes for 568 yards. In six games, German has thrown 57 completions for a team-best 883 yards and six touchdowns.  

The quarterback leads an offense that ranks 15th nationally with 431.17 yards per game. German's passing efficiency rating of 148.01 is 19th in the NCAA.

Godfrey, a native of Englewood, Tenn., tied the second-best scoring performance for a kicker at Tennessee State. The sophomore nailed field goals of 31 and 38 yards, connected on seven extra points and successfully completed an onside kick. His 13 point performance tied Eric Benson's mark set on Oct. 18, 2008 against Austin Peay.

The sophomore leads TSU in scoring with 56 points. His 11 made field goals is first in the Ohio Valley Conference and is tied for fifth in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. The honor marks the first for Godfrey this season.

Tennessee State returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15 when they face No. 21 Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
