Sparkman Named to ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team

2008-09 ESPN the Magazine/CoSida Academic All-District Football Team 

Nashville, Tenn. – Sophomore offensive lineman Charles Sparkman has been selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 2008-09 Football Team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association).

The minimum grade point average for Academic All-America eligibility is 3.30. Over the last two years, about 2,700 athletes that fit the criteria have been nominated, and only 11 of those have earned selection to one of the teams. Recommendations are made by the Academic All-America Committee and approved by the CoSIDA Board.

Sparkman made the second team in the District Four-University Division. The Nashville native currently holds a 3.92 grade point average in communications.

"Charles has excellent work ethics, and he is focused on completing his degree," said Dr. Johnnie Smith, TSU Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services. "He is a respectful and hardworking young man, who strives for academic excellence."

Sparkman was selected along with several other Ohio Valley Conference football players. Taylor Askew (First Team, OL, Tennessee Tech), Bradley Thompson (First Team, DL, Tennessee Tech), Stanley Brooks (Second Team, OL, Austin Peay) and P.R. Morris (Second Team, DL, Austin Peay) were also named.
