NASHVILLE---Tennessee State University has decided not to allow former Florida State University player Adrian McPherson to join the Tigers' football program , TSU Director of Athletics Teresa Phillips has announced. ?A release was requested by TSU from Mr. McPherson's previous institutions,? Phillips said. ?The release offered us the opportunity to speak with Mr. McPherson, his family and his legal counsel. In addition, it also gave us a chance to review his standing with the NCAA and other issues related to his situation. ?After the review, we determined that it is not appropriate for him to join our football program,? Phillips continued. In an earlier statement, Phillips said that while the young man deserves a second chance, that opportunity may or may not be at TSU. McPherson can enroll at TSU as a regular student if he chooses. Fall semester classes begin at the university August 18. Tennessee State had received letters of release from both Florida State and fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State, where McPherson had briefly enrolled last winter. ###
