NASHVILLE ? Four Tennessee State players have been selected to the 2003 All-Ohio Valley Conference football team as chosen by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Tigers selected to the team include returning first-team All-OVC cornerbacks Scott Cunningham and Deon Giddens, senior wide receiver C.J. Johnson and junior kicker Joey Hudak. Johnson and Hudak were each second All-OVC picks in 2002. In addition, junior running back Charles Anthony was honorable mention.
Johnson is coming off a junior season in which he had 45 catches for 1,034 yards and scored nine TD's. He was second in the OVC in receiving yards per game and receptions per game, trailing only former Southeast Missouri player Willie Ponder, who was draft choice of the New York Giants.
Cunningham led the OVC with 19 pass breakups and added three interceptions. Giddens had five interceptions to lead the conference and also led the team with 64 solo tackles.
Hudak connected on his first seven field goals last fall. He finished the season making 11-of-16.
Anthony rushed for 882 yards and scored 10 TD's, despite missing action due to injuries.
The team was announced as a part of the Annual OVC Media Day activities held at the Coliseum.
