NASHVILLE --- Charles Anthony was named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Tennessee State’s football game with Eastern Illinois Saturday evening. Anthony rushed for 195 yards and scored three TD’s in the game as the Tigers came up short in a 54-48 thriller against the nation’s sixth-ranked NCAA Division I-AA team. Anthony had scoring runs of 39, two, and 11 yards in the contest. It was his last scoring run that completed the Tigers’ comeback to tie the game at 48-48 with just more than five minutes remaining. The rushing yardage was the sixth highest single game amount in TSU history and Anthony also set a personal best with his 27 rushing attempts. The Tigers rolled up 675 yards total offense, but EIU was able score the winning touchdown with just over a minute left to play. The weekly award was announced Sunday afternoon by the OVC. It marks the second straight week that a Tiger running back has been honored by the OVC. Sugar Sanders was named Newcomer of the Week for his effort in TSU’s 26-8 win homecoming win over Tennessee-Martin last week. ###
