Asha Gibson

Asha Gibson enters her fourth year serving as the sprints and hurdles coach for the Tennessee State track and field team in 2017-18. During her tenure, Coach Gibson has led student-athletes to a number of awards, conference records and championships, NCAA & USATF Nationals and International Junior competition.

Prior to TSU, Gibson spent six years at Jacksonville State University, in which she aided in the development of the sprint and hurdle program tremendously during her tenure. At JSU, Gibson was the former record holder in the 55-meter dash, 60-meter dash, and 100m dash. She earned twelve all-conference honors while at JSU. In 2005, she was inducted into the JSU Scholar Athlete Hall of Fame. In addition, Gibson received the Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor twice and was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll throughout her academic campaign.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Gibson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Jacksonville State University in the fall of 2008 in Health Education and received her Master’s degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Human Performance in 2013. She has earned USATF Level 2 certifications in Sprints, Hurdles, Relays and Jumps.  Gibson is a USATF Level 1 Instructor, certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has participated in the USOC/USATF Emerging Elite Coaches Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.  

Gibson is currently a Human Performance and Sport Sciences Instructor at Tennessee State University.
