Hill, Thompson Conclude Day Two on a High Note at Black and Gold Invite

FINAL RESULTS

NASHVILLE — The Tigerbelles wrapped up day two of the Black and Gold Invitational at Vanderbilt with four top-10 and five top-20 finishes.

Mikayla Thompson had a successful weekend in the invitational thanks to a personal-record heave in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.02 meters (151’0”) to place 12th in the event on Friday.

“It felt pretty good,” Thompson said. “My turns were really good and I felt strong yesterday, which is not normal for me in the hammer as I’m still trying to perfect my technique.”

Thompson placed 10th in the discus throw on Saturday with a distance of 42.02.

Senior Lakeia Hill has had a prolific start to her outdoor season. The hurdler cashed in a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:01.62 in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Gabrielle Younginer (5.51m) and freshman Kelsea Buchanan (5.50m) placed eighth and ninth, respectively in the long jump.
