Tigerbelles Earn Third at OVC Outdoor Championship

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Mikayla Thompson, Amani Taylor, Kyla Jimmar and the 4x100m relay team earned medals for the Tennessee State women’s track and field team on the third and final day of action of the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship at Tucker Stadium at Tennessee Tech. The Tigerbelles earned third place overall with 87 team points.

  • TSU won one gold medal (shot put), one silver (discus) and two bronze medals (100m hurdles, 4x100m relay).
  • Thompson captured the gold medal in the shot put with a personal record distance of 15.54m (51’0”). Her previous best was 15.34m (50’3.75”) from the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational earlier this outdoor season. It was Thompson’s second career Ohio Valley Conference medal.
  • TSU silver medal came courtesy of Taylor in the discus. The sophomore’s best distance of the day was 47.30m (155’2”), which was a personal record. The silver was the first for Taylor in her TSU career.
  • Jimmar also set a personal record on the day to take home third place and the bronze medal in the 100m hurdles. The sophomore clocked in at 14.22 in Saturday’s finals.
  • Jimmar was also part of the 4x100m relay team that earned the bronze. She teamed with Amber McCroskey, Angel Horton and Lakeia Hill for a time of 46.53.
  • In the 400m hurdles, redshirt freshman Grenetria Shell turned in a personal best time of 1:01.78 for fourth place to add five points to TSU’s point total.
