‘Mr. Temple and The Tigerbelles’ to Air Tonight on CBS Sports Network

NASHVILLE --- A documentary about legendary Tennessee State women’s track and field coach Ed Temple will air tonight on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. The documentary titled “Mr. Temple and The Tigerbelles” is an hour long.  

The film will chronicle the life and career of Temple, who served as the head coach for the United States Olympic women’s track and field team in 1960 and 1964 before taking an assistant coaching role for the 1980 Olympics.

Temple passed away in September of 2016, leaving a lasting legacy that spans across the globe. He guided the Tigerbelles for more than four decades until his retirement in 1994.

Temple coached his Tigerbelle teams to more than 30 national titles and led 40 athletes to the Olympics. The famed Tigerbelles earned a total of 23 Olympic medals, 13 of which were gold.

The final Tigerbelle Temple guided to an Olympic gold medal was Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice, who currently serves as TSU’s Director of Track and Field. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Calif., Cheeseborough-Guice won the gold medal with the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams in addition to a silver medal in the 400m.

Cheeseborough-Guice is one of many connected to the program who was interviewed for the documentary by filmmakers Tom Neff and Shelley Hays.
