DAY ONE RESULTS | DAY ONE TEAM SCORES

CHARLESTON, Ill. --- The Tennessee State women’s track and field team is in second place with 40 points after the first day of competition on Friday at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.

Cyra Beard, Grenetria Shell and Daimer Gordon all earned medals for the Tigerbelles on Friday.

  • The Tigerbelles are just 11 points back of first-place Eastern Kentucky after the first day.
  • Beard finished second to earn the silver medal in the high jump after clearing the bar set at 1.70m (5’7”) on her second attempt at the height. It is Beard’s sixth career OVC medal and fifth for the high jump.
  • In her first OVC Track and Field Championship, Shell took second place in the pentathlon for her first career medal. Shell’s 3,441 points earned her the silver medal on the day. The freshman posted the best long jump distance of 5.66m (18’7”) among pentathlon competitors.
  • Gordon, who was the defending champion in the weight throw, earned another medal in the event on Friday, taking the bronze with a mark of 17.45m (57’3”) on her sixth and final attempt.
  • TSU also earned points in the weight throw thanks to the performances of Hannah Alsup (4th place – 5 points) and Amani Taylor (5th place – 4 points).
  • Angel Horton took fifth in the long jump (4 points), with Kasandra Sanders (6th – 3 points) and Jalyn Bowen (7th – 2 points) securing points in the high jump.
  • In prelim action, Kyla Jimmar is moving onto the finals of the 60m hurdles with a fourth-place finish in 8.87.
  • Jimmar and Lakeia Hill are also advancing to the finals of the 200m, while Christian Pryor and Rebekah Wynn will run in tomorrow’s finals in the 800m.
  • Competition concludes tomorrow.
