Tigerbelles have Strong First Day at Thundering Herd Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. --- The Tennessee State women’s track and field team kicked off the two-day Thundering Herd Invitational on Friday night. With most of the action scheduled for tomorrow, the Tigerbelles performed well in limited action on day one at the Jeff Small Track.

In the five-event pentathlon, Grenetria Shell compiled 3,513 points for fifth place on the day with the second-best score in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. Shell won the long jump as part of the pentathlon with a distance of 5.97m (19’7”), with her next best finish coming in the 800m in 2:32.63 for sixth.

Also in the pentathlon, Cyra Beard placed 10th overall with 3,202 points. Beard secured fourth in the 60m hurdles in 9.13, before winning the high jump (1.72m – 5’7.75”) and taking second in the long jump (5.74m – 18’10”).

Hannah Aslup was another top finisher for TSU on the day, taking home fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 16.60m (54’5.5”).

The Thundering Herd Invitational concludes tomorrow.
