OXFORD, Ala. --- The Tennessee State women’s track and field team opened action at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at Choccolocco Park on Thursday. The Tigerbelles competed in the heptathlon and the hammer throw on day one.
Through four events in the heptathlon, Cyra Beard (Jackson, Tenn.) is in third place with 3,025 points. Beard tied a season best by clearing 1.73m (5’8”) in the high jump in the heptathlon to take first. The junior added fourth-place finishes in the 100m hurdles (14.50) and the 200m (25.83) to go with a 10th-place shot put distance of 8.21m (26’11.25”).
In the hammer throw, Chy’enne LeNeair (Racine, Wisc.) placed 13th with a distance of 43.68m (143’4”). She was followed by Hannah Alsup (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) in 14th thanks to a mark of 43.45m (142’7”).
In the team scoring, Southeast Missouri leads the way with 22 points. TSU will look for its first points tomorrow.
Day two of the OVC Championship begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
