BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- For the fourth time this outdoor season, Tennessee State women’s track and field senior Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference, earning adidas OVC Track Athlete of the Week. Hughes is also a three-time OVC Field Athlete of the Week honoree this outdoor season.
Hughes won her latest award after capturing first place in the 100m hurdles at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday in Louisville, Ky. Her winning time of 13.35 is the best in the OVC this year and is tied for 34th in the NCAA.
The senior also placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.34, which ranks fifth in the OVC. Hughes, who also secured second in the long jump, helped TSU’s 4x400m relay (3:41.51) and 4x100m relay teams (46.45) put together strong performances.
The Tigerbelles are back in action on May 11-13 at the OVC Championship in Oxford, Ala.
