BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- Tennessee State women’s track and field All-American Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) was honored for her performance at the Weems Baskin Invitational by earning adidas Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
Hughes placed third in the long jump on Friday with a distance of 6.21m (20’4.5”), which is a personal best for the event outdoors. The distance is the best in the OVC this season and ranks fourth in the nation in Division I.
The senior from Atlanta won four OVC weekly awards during the indoor season in addition to taking home OVC Track Athlete of the Year, OVC Field Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the OVC Indoor Championship. For her performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Hughes earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-America accolades for the triple jump.
The Tigerbelles are back in action for the UNF Invite on April 8 in Jacksonville, Fla.
