NCAA INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

STARTING LINE: For the second year in a row, Tigerbelle Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) will compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. This year’s event is scheduled for March 10-11 at Gilliam Indoor Stadium at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. Hughes qualified for the triple jump, which is set for Saturday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m.

QUALIFYING: Hughes is seeded eighth in the field of 16 for the triple jump. The senior qualified for the event thanks to a distance of 13.44m (44’1.25”) in the triple jump at the Ed Temple Classic at the Gentry Center on Jan. 8.
AT LAST YEAR’S EVENT: The Tennessee State women’s track and field team tied for 21st in the nation at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championship. Hughes earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America Honors after taking fourth in the triple jump. It was the highest finish for a Tigerbelle at an NCAA Division I Championship. Also at last year’s championship, then-senior Clairwin Dameus took home First Team All-America honors for the long jump and the pentathlon.
