BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- Tennessee State women’s track and field senior Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) earned Ohio Valley Conference Female Athlete of the Indoor Championship, it was announced on Tuesday by the OVC office. The award is voted on by OVC track and field coaches.
Hughes earned the distinction after winning six medals at the OVC Indoor Championship on Feb. 24-25 in Charleston, Ill. The senior from Atlanta, Ga. captured gold medals in the 60m, 60m hurdles, long jump and triple jump to go with silvers in the 200m and as a member of the 4x400m relay team.
As a team, the Tigerbelles took home third place at the OVC Indoor Championship, finishing just 15 points behind first-place Eastern Illinois.
For Hughes, who won OVC Track Athlete of the Year and OVC Field Athlete of the Year for her performance during the regular season, it is her third time being honored for her postseason performance after earning Athlete of the Outdoor Championship in each of the last two seasons.
Hughes will continue her season at the NCAA Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas. The senior will compete in the triple jump on Saturday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m. Fans can watch the action live on ESPN3.
