NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women’s track and field team began the Vanderbilt Invitational on the right foot on Friday at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
Leading the way for the Tigerbelles, Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) secured third place in the 200m by clocking in at 24.45. Hughes finished just behind student-athletes from Arkansas and South Carolina. It was also the best 200m time of the season for TSU.
Cyra Beard (Jackson, Tenn.) cleared 1.71m (5’7.25”) in the high jump on her third attempt at the height. The performance earned her fourth place on the day.
In other field events, Brejhe’ Halls (Atlanta, Ga.) turned in a distance of 5.16m (16’11.25”) in the long jump. Daimer Gordon (Ellenwood, Ga.) finished 10th in the weight throw thanks to a personal record distance of 17.28m (56’8.5”).
The Tigerbelles will wrap up the Vanderbilt Invitational tomorrow.
