NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Adding to her already impressive career, Tennessee State women’s track and field junior Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) earned Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday. The award is voted on by OVC coaches.
Hughes, who won OVC Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year during the indoor season, made the Olympic Trial Standard for the triple jump during the outdoor season with a distance of 13.46m (44’2”) at the Memphis Invitational. Her mark is the best in the OVC this season and ranks third in the nation.
Throughout the outdoor season, Hughes earned OVC Field Athlete of the Week once and Track Athlete of the Week twice.
During the indoor portion of the schedule, Hughes placed fourth in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships and earned First Team All-America honors.
TSU will host the OVC Outdoor Championship at Edward S. Temple Track on campus on May 13-14.
