Dameus, Hughes Earn OVC Weekly Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee State women’s track and field stars Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) were recognized for their performances at last weekend’s Pepsi Florida Relays by earning Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards, the OVC announced on Wednesday. Dameus earned Adidas OVC Field Athlete of the Week, while Hughes was honored as Adidas OVC Co-Track Athlete of the Week.

For Dameus, it is the second week in a row she has won the award. The senior earned the honor after placing fifth in the long jump at the Pepsi Florida Relays with a distance of 6.21m (20’4.5”). The distance is the best in the OVC this season and good for 10th in the nation.

Hughes is also being honored for the second time this outdoor season after a number of strong performances at the Pepsi Florida Relays. The Atlanta native placed 15th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.40. It is the best time in the OVC this year and is 24th in the nation. Hughes also competed on TSU’s 4x400m relay team that posted the best time in the OVC this year (3:39.01).
