STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State women’s track and field team looks to carry momentum from a strong indoor season into the outdoor season beginning with the Bulls Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida. The event, scheduled for March 17-18, will take place at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
ABOUT THE FIELD: Teams from around the nation are in Tampa, Fla. for the Bulls Invitational. Some of the competition includes Florida State, Marquette, South Florida, Louisville and Rutgers.
ABOUT THE SCHEDULE: The women’s hammer throw is scheduled to be the first event on Thursday beginning at noon. The following day begins with the men’s javelin at 9 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Tigerbelles tied for 21st in the nation thanks to the points of Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala. Dameus claimed sixth in the long jump (6.40m) and eighth in the pentathlon (4226) to earn First Team All-America recognition for both events. Hughes, who placed fourth in the triple jump (13.25m), was also named First Team All-America. They are the first two Tigerbelles to score in the NCAA Division I Championship meet.
OVC CHAMPIONS: TSU won the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. The Tigerbelles are also the defending OVC Outdoor Champions.
UP NEXT: The Tigerbelles head to the Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. on March 25-26. The event is hosted by Vanderbilt.
