NCAA INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

STARTING LINE: Senior Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and junior Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) will compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 11-12 at Birmingham CrossPlex. Dameus met the qualifying standard for the long jump and pentathlon, while Hughes qualified for the triple jump.
COVERAGE: ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 11 starting at 5:25 p.m. Central time and March 12 starting at 3:55 p.m. Central time. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 13 starting at 6 p.m. Central time on ESPN2 and also Wednesday, March 23 starting at 9 p.m. Central time on ESPNU.
HOW THEY GOT HERE: Dameus qualified for nationals in the pentathlon thanks to her record-setting score of 4203 at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship. The score was a new meet record and qualifies her in 12th in the field. In the long jump, Dameus’ seed mark of 6.44m from the OVC Indoor Championship is good for seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Hughes has a seed mark in the triple jump of 13.35m, which places her fourth. Her mark came at the OVC Indoor Championship to capture gold.
SCHEDULE: On Friday, Dameus will compete in the pentathlon at 12:15 p.m. and the long jump at 7:10 p.m. On Saturday, Hughes will take part in the triple jump at 5 p.m.
AWARDS FOR HUGHES AND DAMEUS: Hughes was named OVC Track Athlete of the Year and OVC Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season. She was also named OVC Field Athlete of the Week once and Track Athlete of the Week twice. For Dameus, she took home OVC Indoor Championship MVP honors for the third year in a row and was named OVC Field athlete of the Week twice.
