MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The MTSU Invitational produced a number of top performances for the Tennessee State women’s track and field team with multiple first-place finishes.
Three-time OVC Weekly Award winner Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) clocked in at 7.04 in the 55m to take first and tie a personal record for the event. Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.), who took third in the 55m (7.12), went on to win the 200m (25.14).
Angel Davis (Decateur, Ga.) once again dominated the throwing events, winning the shot put (13.26m) and the weight throw (16.74m).
In the high jump, Sharmil Whyatt (Vilseck, Germany) tied for the best performance on the day by clearing 1.65m. Amber Townsend (Atlanta, Ga.) also tied for the top distance in the triple jump (12.10m).
In other strong performances, Mikayla Banks (Houston, Texas) earned second place in the 200m (25.37), Christian Pryor (Detroit, Mich.) finished in third in the 400m (56.82) and Kayla Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) was third in the 800m (2:16.50).
Up next, the Tigerbelles travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Invitational on Feb. 12-13.
