BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) continued their impressive seasons for the Tennessee State women's track and field team by earning Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards, it was announced on Wednesday. Dameus repeated as Adidas OVC Field Athlete of the Week, while Hughes picked up her third award of the season by taking home Adidas Track Athlete of the Week.
Dameus set a personal record in the pentathlon with a score of 3,898 to win the event at the Gladstein Invitational. The point total is the best in the OVC this season and ranks fifth in the nation. In the process, Dameus also set a new personal record in the long jump with a distance of 6.31m.
To win OVC Track Athlete of the Week, Hughes set a new personal best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.33 in the preliminary round. She followed up with a time of 8.70 in the finals to earn fifth place at the Gladstein Invitational. Also at the event, Hughes captured first in the triple jump, reaching a personal record 13.29m.
The Tigerbelles return to action on Feb. 6 for the MTSU Invitational.
