STARTING SERVE: The Tennessee State Tiger tennis teams will host the Mississippi Valley State tennis team for their fifth matchup of the season this Friday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.
LAST TIME OUT: Both the men’s and women’s teams dropped the Sunday matches against Alabama State 5-2. For the men, the duo Larry Sloan and Kato Richardson were the only team from TSU to win a doubles match, giving the Hornets a lead going into singles play. Shashank Nautiyal and Stefan Koruga won the two points for TSU, beating their respective opponents 6-1, 6-0 and 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, respectively. For the women, ASU clinched the doubles point on the first two courts, leaving the third court unfinished. Pragati Natraj and Aarushi Kakkar were the only women to win singles matches, Natraj fighting for each point pushing the match to three sets and winning 6-3, 5-7, 12-10.
SERIES INFORMATION: The Tigers shutout the Devils 4-0 at the beginning of the season in two doubleheaders. The men are looking to repeat and improve its record to 6-0 over MVSU, and 8-4 overall, and the women 6-0, 8-1 overall.
UP NEXT: The men’s tennis team will compete against Saint Louis Wednesday, Feb. 21, 6 p.m. at the Currey Tennis Center, and will join the women’s team as the Tigers take on Cumberland Thursday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
