MARTIN, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s tennis team lost to UT Martin by a 7-0 final score on Sunday afternoon.

“We played really good in singles,” TSU Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “They won the conference last year and we were in almost every match. Abhi played really well and lost in a tough three set match. Her energy was great. Ashia played outstanding today. She is only a freshman; but she is growing and her game is improving. She played a great second set and almost won it. We have to do better in doubles. We come out too flat. We have to get ready for the weekend matches coming up.”

UT Martin (7-3, 3-0 OVC) led TSU (6-4, 0-4 OVC) the entire way, earning the doubles point before taking all six singles matches in straight sets.

Freshman Ashia Jones played a tightly-contested match at No. 3 singles, falling to Burcu Tari, 6-3, 7-6(5).  In another back-and-forth match, Abhilasha Vishwanath fell at her No. 4 slot by a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 score.

Next week during a two-day span, TSU hosts three matches at home versus SIUE (March 31), Eastern Illinois (April 1), Arkansas Pine Bluff (April 1).
