ATLANTA --- The Tennessee State women’s tennis team completed another strong day at the HBCU Championships on Friday. The Tigers have three singles players in the semi-finals tomorrow and went undefeated with six doubles wins.
Freshman Zina Graves along with Ani Popiashvili and Pragati Natraj all advanced to the semi-finial match for their respective flight. All three athletes have an opportunity to become an HBCU champion in singles. Along with their singles success all three players won their doubles match with teammates as well.
The Tigers won all six of their doubles matches on Friday to advance to the next round. In Flight A doubles Ashia Jones and Abhilasha Vishwanath beat Grambling players Bryttish Burts and Tanya Magunje. Zina Graves and Ella Perinovic teamed up to beat a Xavier team of Lacee Ancar and Emma Kranendonk 8-3.
In the B Flight doubles Phyllicia Hemphill and Taylor Patterson won their match by a 8-3 score as well. Pragati Natra and Ani Popiashuili advanced to semi-finals after combining for two wins beating Howard in the round of 32 and then Alabama State by a score of 8-1.
The HBCU Championships conclude tomorrow.
