TSU Women’s Tennis Can’t Get by Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – Competing on the road for the final time this season, the Tennessee State women’s tennis team lost by a 7-0 final score at Murray State at the Bennie Purcell Courts on Tuesday.

TSU (8-10, 1-6 OVC) got off to a sluggish start and never recovered as Murray State (10-9, 5-4 OVC) won the doubles point and all six singles matches.

“The women came out super flat in doubles. We didn’t match their energy,” TSU Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “In singles, Pragati (Natraj) played really well and could have won. I was really proud of her effort. Also, Abhilasha (Viswanath) played amazing. She was battling and left it all out there. Those two really showed up today, and we need more this weekend.”

In singles play, Pragati Natraj (Bangalore, India) forced a tiebreaker in the first and second sets at No. 2, but Murray State’s Amina Hadzic pulled out 7-6 (4) victories in both sets.

Abhilasha Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) also played a tough match at No. 4 singles, forcing a third set versus Erin Patton. Vishwanath lost the first set (6-2) and bounced back with a 6-3 second-set win. In the third, Patton earned a 7-6 (5) win to secure the victory.

The Tigers will close out the season with home matches at Hadley Park versus UT Martin on Friday and Southeast Missouri on Sunday.
