OPENING SERVE: The Tennessee State women’s tennis team’s busy week includes four matches in three days at Hadley Park. The action kicks off with a Thursday afternoon showdown with Belmont.  

LAST TIME OUT: In the Ohio Valley Conference opener on March 19, TSU fell to Jacksonville State by a 7-0 final score at Hadley Park. The Gamecocks won the doubles point then took all six singles matches in straight sets.

ABOUT BELMONT: Carrying a 2-6 record, Belmont has lost four in a row entering Thursday. The Bruins will face Tennessee in Nashville in the morning before traveling to Hadley Park to battle TSU in the afternoon. Belmont lost its OVC opener to Jacksonville State, 6-1.

ABOUT MOREHEAD STATE: Facing a brutal schedule that includes the likes of Cincinnati, Louisville, Marshall, Indiana and Western Michigan, Morehead State is 0-12 on the season. Splitting time between No. 3, 4 and 5 singles, Hayley Wild leads the team with five singles victories.

ABOUT EASTERN KENTUCKY: EKU is 7-8 on the year with OVC victories over Austin Peay and Morehead State. No. 1 singles player Laura Argente is 14-8 overall, including an 11-4 mark in dual matches at the top position.

LAST SEASON VS. OPPONENTS: Last spring, TSU lost to Belmont by a 6-0 final score on the road. Morehead State and EKU also earned 6-0 wins over TSU last season. The Tigers did not face Fisk last spring.

OVC PRESEASON POLL: SIUE received four first-place votes to take the top spot in the OVC preseason poll. Murray State and EKU were picked 2-3, also picking up first-place votes. UT Martin, Eastern Illinois and Morehead State rounded out the top six vote getters. The rest of the poll concluded with Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Belmont, Southeast Missouri and Tennessee State.
