NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s tennis team turned in its finest performance of the season this weekend against Alabama A&M, but dropped three matches in two days to Murray State (4-0), Austin Peay (7-0) and the Bulldogs (4-3).
On Friday, the Tigers managed just two games against the Racers as Phyllicia Hemphill earned one (6-0, 6-1) and Adriane Presley got the other (6-1, 6-0).
TSU fared much better against AAMU. After falling in the doubles competitions, Hemphill earned TSU its first point by beating her opponent in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.
Down 2-1, the Bulldogs rallied to gain two more points to earn the win. However, the Tigers kept battling and Nicole Madden handedly knocked off her opponent, 6-1, 6-1 and Corlisia Clark won by default.
Later Saturday, the Tigers fell, 7-0, to the Govs. The highlight of the match was Hemphill’s, 6-2, 6-2, match against APSU.
The Tigers will next play at Belmont on Apr. 9.
