Women's Tennis Drop Tough Match to Austin Peay, Looks Ahead to Eastern Illinois

Tigers Drop 0-2 in Three Day Homestand

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 OVC loss to Austin Peay State at the TSU Tennis Complex Friday afternoon. The team moves a 0-8 record and carries a 0-5 mark in the OVC.

The Lady Govs stand at 2-13 overall picking up their first conference win of the season (1-4 OVC).

The Tigers dropped seven sets, 6-0, with the most suspensful matches coming in the number five and six seeds. Melissa Martin battled hard, down 6-1, winning four sets, but could not hold off Brittany Hayes in game two losing, 6-4. Dania Lofton (2-5) could not take advantage of opportunities late in the second set losing to Alexandria Pyle, 6-1, 7-6 (15-13).

The squad will finish a three-game homestand in consecutive days when they face-off against Eastern Illinois in conference play on Saturday, April 4th. Match time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

EIU's women lost their last time on the court to UT Martin (3/29), 5-2, after defeating Austin Peay, 4-3 (3/28).

Annie Egan holds the best individual record at 7-7 and EIU enters with 40-56 (.417) record in singles. The Panthers have experimented with different doubles combinations resulting in a 21-27 (.438) record. Cara Huck and Jalina Fry carry the top dobles record for the Panthers at 7-4 while Hayley Hamburg and Amanda Dibbs post a 4-1 mark.

Next up, women's tennis will hit the road for the last time on the year when they travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to play Southeast Missouri State in OVC play on Monday, April 6. Match time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
