Women's Tennis Falls to Jax. St., Ends Season Against Tennessee Tech

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University women's tennis team dropped their Ohio Valley Conference home match to Jacksonville State, 5-0, Friday afternoon. Due to the inclement weather in the Nashville area, the teams did not play doubles and the match was held inside the Hadley Park Tennis Bubble.

The Tigers now post a 0-12 overall record, 0-8 in the OVC while JSU extend their season record to 12-6 (5-1 OVC).

TSU picked up three games in 10 sets but dropped three, 6-0. In No. 4 play, Lia Stewart down 6-0, picked up two games in the second sets but lost down the stretch, 6-2, to Rafaila Wenzel.

At No. 6, Dania Lofton (5-6) in one set played, lost 8-2 to Kristen Fuller.

The Tigers will end the regular season at home in OVC play when they host Tennessee Tech on Saturday, April 11th. Match start is scheduled for 10 a.m.

For the TTU (7-7, 6-2), Kelly Holtzhausen (19-3) leads the Golden Eagles in No.1 play and has powered their three-game win streak including a 6-0 shutout over Eastern Kentucky (4/10).

As a result of their record, the Tigers are eliminated from the 2009 OVC Tennis Championship on April 17-19 in Paducah, Ky. The championship will be hosted by Murray State.
