Lofton moves to 2-4 in loss to Alabama A&M

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 heartbreaker to Alabama A&M inside the Hadley Park Tennis Bubble on Wednesday afternoon. The match was played inside due to inclement weather.

TSU Tennis moves to 0-7 on the season remaining 0-4 in Ohio Valley Conference matches.

The women dropped five straight games before picking up their only point of the match by way of default, giving senior Dania Lofton (2-4) her second win on the season. In the number one match-up, Megan Haynes (0-7) loss to Te'Tsha Mixon, 6-2, 6-3. Penelope Johnson fought hard in the second seed game but loss 6-4, 6-2, to MeShala Johnson.

In doubles play, Haynes and Johnson dropped 8-3 to the Bulldogs (8-8) top team of Johnson and Brittany Jelks.

The Tigers will host Austin Peay on April 3 at 2 p.m. in OVC play. The match was originally scheduled for April 9th.

The Lady Govs are 1-13, 0-4 in OVC action carrying the same record on the road. APSU picked up their only win on the year against SIU Edwardsville, 7-0, on March 20th and are on a two-game drop losing to Tennesse Tech, 6-1, their last time out (3/31).

Third seed Michelle Liew leads APSU with the top individual record in singles competition at 10-4. As a team, the Lady Govs are 24-60 (.285) in singles competiton and 12-19 (.293) in doubles action with the team of Yuki Nakamura and Mariana Pagan leading the way with a 7-7 record.
