WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEPT BY MURRAY STATE IN OVC OPENER

MURRAY, Ky. --- Despite taking three games, the Tennessee State women's tennis team (0-2, 0-1 OVC) was unable to pick up its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season over Murray State on Thursday. The Lady Racers held off the Lady Tigers, 7-0. In singles play, Melissa Spencer won at No. 1 singles over senior Danette Rachael, 6-0, 6-0, while Jaclyn Leeper won at No. 2 singles over junior Melaney Whiting, 6-0, 6-0. Rachael Lask won at No. 3 singles over sophomore Martina Goldthreate, 6-0, 6-0, while Casady Pruitt won at No. 4 singles over sophomore Kiamesha Wilson, 6-0, 6-0, and Christina Hall won at No. 5 singles over sophomore Montere Fair 6-1, 6-0. The Lady Racers also won at No. 6 singles by default. In doubles action, Leeper and Spencer teamed at No. 1 doubles to win over Goldthreate and Rachael, 8-2, while the Lask sisters won at No. 2 doubles over Whiting and Wilson, 8-0. Pruitt and Jennifer Ward won at No. 3 doubles by default. Tennessee State returns to action on Saturday, March 13 as it travels to Bowling Green, Ky. Play is set to begin at 10 a.m.
