NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State struggled in its fall matchup with Lipscomb and Belmont at McCabe Field Golf Course on Friday. The Tigers closed out the day with a 65-over, 353, to finish behind Belmont (12-Over, 300) and Lipscomb (19-Over, 307).
Savannah Szozda led the Tigers with an 8-over, 80, placing 11th in a field of 22 golfers. The TSU freshman finished six strokes off the leaders for the one day event. Belmont’s Abbie Gregory and Mallory Sullivan, Belmont joined Lipscomb’s Samantha Griffith and Jenny Muesing in a four-way tie at 2-Over, 74.
Natalie Spicer fired an 86 on the day as she hit eight fairways and four greens. The senior converted on five up-and-downs to save par. Spicer found herself in the hazard on two separate holes, the par-4, 11th, and the par-4, 18th. On both accounts, Spicer was able to drain 15 foot putts to save par after reaching the greens after taking drops.
Freshman Morgan Rood followed Spicer carding an 89. Rood hit two fairways on the front nine and three on the back.
Paige Harlin claimed the final scoring round for TSU with a 98, while Haleigh Riley finished with a 104.
The Tigers will resume play at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Oct. 10 at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
