CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s golf team closed out play at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Tigers (339-360=699) finished eighth after shooting a 72-over at the Par-71, 5,760-yard, Clarksville Country Club.
Host Austin Peay won the team title led by individual medalist Jessica Cathey who shot a 1-under during the final round.
Natalie Spicer led the Tigers on the final day with a 14-over, 86. Spicer notched eight pars including up-and-down’s on the par-3, 4th, and the par-4, 10th. The junior hit nine fairways and seven greens on Tuesday.
The Tiger’s day one leader, Kelly Merkel, converted seven pars during the final round giving her a total of 22 for the tournament, the third most on the two-day event. Merkel finished 29th as she hit eight fairways, seven greens and averaged two putts a hole on her way to an 88.
Sarah Needleman highlighted the day with a birdie on the par-5, 5th. Needleman was able to secure a six foot putt after knocking a 56-degree wedge from 67 yards out.
Freshman Paige Harlin used five fairways and three greens to shoot a 97 for the final scoring position for TSU.
Imani Stingley carded a non-scoring 101 on Tuesday. Stingley used a 3-hybrid off the tee box to the middle of the fairway on the par-5, 2nd. The sophomore reused the 3-hybrid to 120-yards from the green before reaching into her bag and pulling out a 9-iron. Stingley stuck the shot two feet from the flag setting up her lone birdie of the day.
The Tigers will take a week off before playing their final tournament of the fall season at the Braun Invitational in Evansville, Ind. on Oct. 26.
