GLENCOE, Ala. – The Tennessee State women’s golf team completed play at the Chris Banister Golf Classic hosted by Jacksonville State. The Tigers finished 12th despite recording its best performance on Tuesday by shooting a 333 at the RTJ Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Ala.
Natalie Spicer used consistent play on the final day to lead TSU with an 8-over, 80. Spicer hit 12-of-14 fairways, 10 greens and carded 10 pars, including up-and-downs on the par-5, 10th and the par-4, 13th.
The junior scored her lone birdie of the day on the par-3, 2nd. Spicer used a 7-iron off the tee box from 140 yards to 11 feet from the flag. Spicer drained the putt leading to her best round over the three-day event.
Sarah Needleman and Kelly Merkel tied for the best finish for the Tigers with a classic total of 252. Needleman once again found success off the box by hitting 13-of-14 fairways to go along with 10 greens in regulation. The senior finished the event with six birdies, the fifth highest number of the tournament. Needleman recorded just one birdie on Tuesday, as she sank a 20-foot putt on the par-3, 14th.
Merkel fired an 83 during the final round with 11-of-14 fairways and 12 greens. The senior hit a 110-yard approach shot to six feet of the cup setting up a putt to record her lone birdie.
Paige Harlin was the only Tiger to cut strokes from her score each day. The freshman put up the third lowest score for TSU on Tuesday with an 85.
Imani Stingley put together her best round of the week as she shot a non-scoring 92. Stingley hit five fairways and five greens, while using 38 putts on Tuesday.
The Tigers next tournament is Oct. 12-13 as they take part in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tenn.
