Tigers Complete Play at Murray State Invitational
MURRAY, Ky. – The Tennessee State women’s golf team completed play at the Murray State Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers cut 12 strokes off its previous round to finish 11th on the Par-72, 6,017 yard Miller Memorial Golf Course.
Kelly Merkel (90-83-82=255) and Natalie Spicer each shot a 10-over, 82, to pace TSU. Sarah Needleman and Laura Bremer provided the final two scoring rounds with a 84 and 88, respectively. Imani Stingley rounded out play for Tennessee State with a non-scoring 89.
Needleman (82-82-84=248) was the top finisher for TSU in 51st, as she hit 13 of 14 fairways, four greens and used 31 putts. The junior notched an up-and-down on the par-5, 8th, as she hit the green from 122-yards out, leaving 12 feet for the capitalizing putt.
Spicer (80-93-82=255) hit 11 fairways and seven greens on the day as she carded nine pars, including an up-and-down on No. 7.
Bremer (93-91-88=272) closed out the tournament by draining a 14-foot putt from the left fringe to record a birdie. The junior finished the round with seven fairways and five greens, while using 31 putts.
Stingley (90-92-89=271) needed 34 putts on Saturday as she hit six fairways and four greens. The freshman highlighted her day with a 35-foot putt on No. 5 to save par.
The Tigers will close out the season at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in Huntsville, Ala. The three-day event will begin on Monday, Apr. 20.
