Tigers Conclude Play at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The women’s golf team concluded play at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech. The Tigers shot 356 over the final 18 holes for a two-day total of 711 at the par-71, 5,803 yard, Sevierville Golf Club. The field played under better conditions on Tuesday as the sun broke through the clouds around mid-morning as temperatures reached 61 degrees.
The Tigers finished 12th out of 13, with Eastern Kentucky grabbing the title with a 57-over, 625.
Erica Edwards (88-85=173) led the way for TSU as she registered a birdie on the par-3, 13th, with a 20-foot downhill putt. The freshman notched six pars by using 12 fairways and eight greens.
Kelly Merkel (90-84=174) carded the low score of the day for the Tigers with seven pars on her way to an 84. Merkel found seven fairways and seven greens on Tuesday.
Freshman Natalie Spicer (86-90=176) recorded a birdie on the par-3, 18th, as she drained a 38-foot uphill putt. Sophomore Sarah Needleman (97-97=194) repeated her first day results with eight fairways, three greens and 35 putts for a 97.
Amelia Dap, playing as an individual, got off to a slow start before finishing with pars on four of her last five holes.
TSU returns home to host the Big Blue Intercollegiate Mar. 24-25. The two-day 36-hole event will be played at the Hermitage Golf Course.
