Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University women's golf team returns to action at the 2012 Drake Creek Invitational in Ledbetter, Ky. After a practice round on Sunday, play will take place on September 17-18 at the Par-72, 5,146 yard course.
The Tigers, along with the eleven team field, will compete in the 54-hole event. Monday will feature 36-hole's of play beginning at 8:30 a.m., while the final 18-hole's are schedule for a 8:00 a.m. tee time on Tuesday. Both days will have a shotgun start.
The Tigers are coming off a second-place finish at the Alabama State Fall Golf Classic and are looking to improve on their second day of play when they charged back cutting 55 strokes off their first day score. Freshman Kelly Merkel led the way with a 170 (88-82), while junior Bria Norris shot an 85 on day two. Amelia Dap registered a 183 (93-90) to tie for seventh individually, while freshman Sarah Needleman shot a day two 87, cutting 14 strokes off her day one total to finish with a 188. Chelsea Marlin rounded out the TSU squad with a 228.
TSU will square off against golfers from Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Columbia, Drake, Jackson State, Murray State, Northern Iowa, and Southern Illinois.
