Women's golf tees off at the NewWave Communications Classic

Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University women's golf team will kick-off the spring portion of their 2010-2011 season on Monday, February 28, when they travel to Murray, Ky., for the 8th Annual NewWave Communications Classic. The two-day event will take place at the Miller Memorial Golf Course and is hosted by Murray State.

Miller Memorial, a par 71 and 6,592-yard course will feature teams including Belmont, Valparaiso, Western Illinois, and OVC member Austin Peay.

After a rocky showing in the fall season the Tennessee State University women's golf team was picked to finish the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference race in eighth place in a vote of league head coaches

Last fall, the Tigers finished in the top ten in the team standings in two of four events, placing 8th at the Alabama State Fall Classic and 5th at the Savannah State Golf Invitational. Jamie Pierce leads the team with an 82.3 per stroke average and 11-over-par.

The Murray State Spring Invitational is set to tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Febraury 28. TSU will return to action March 12 for the Dual Match hosted by Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn.
