Women's golf fires lowest round of season

Scottsboro, Ala. --- The Tennessee State University women's golf team saved its best performance for the Alabama A&M Spring Golf Classic, shooting their lowest round ever to finish third in the tournament.

The Tigers carded a 683 overall after posting a season best 333 team score during Tuesday's final 18 holes at the Goose Pond Colony Plantations Golf Course.

TSU junior Jamie Pierce led TSU for the two-day tournament, recording a total 162 (81-81) securing a sixth place finish.

After firing a second round score of 83, freshman Bria Norris recorded an overall score of 169 to finish in eighth. Junior Marie Black rounded out the top ten for Tennessee State carding a ninth place finish with a 170 (87-83) overall score.

Also competing for the women were junior Mya Billingsley and sophomore Jatoia Potts who tallied totals of 182 and 215, respectively. Billingsley finished in 11th, while Potts came in 15th.

Hampton won the event shooting a tournament-best round of 312 on the second day to finish with a 640 finishing 27 strokes ahead of Prairie View A&M (337-330).

TSU will return to action next week to compete in the Belmont Invitational on April 3.
