Nashville, Tenn.--- The Tennessee State University women's golf team will close out their fall season when they tee off the at the annual Savannah State Golf Invitational held at the Henderson Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. The tournament will take place from November 5 -7 and is hosted by Savannah State.
The Henderson Golf Club, a par 71, 5,745-yard course, will host six women teams. The pool of competition includes teams from: Savannah State, Jackson State, South Carolina State, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, and Hampton.
The Tigers are looking to improve from last year's finish with Hampton returning after winning the 2009 Invitational. TSU finished fifth shooting a 365 in round one before registering a score of 352 in the second round.
This season, the Tigers have finished in the top ten in the team standings in one of three tournaments, placing 8th at the Alabama State Fall Classic.
The women are led by Jamie Pierce and Laura Brown. Pierce has played in four rounds in two events averaging 82.3 and 11-over-par while Brown averages 88.8 and 18-over-par playing in six rounds in three events.
TSU hopes to improve their golf game from their 16th place finish from the BSC Southern Shootout where they shot a total of 749 carding their best round of the season with a stroke total of 374 in the first round.
First round action for the Savannah State Invitational is set to kick off on Saturday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
