Women's golf prepares for Birmingham Southern Shootout

Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University women's golf team will travel to Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday to participate in the Birmingham Southern Shootout.

The 2nd annual tournament, hosted by Birmingham-Southern, will be held at Highland Park Golf Course. The 18-hole layout course is the oldest course in the state of Alabama with beautiful views of downtown Birmingham.

The competition will be held Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 11-12) with practice rounds scheduled for Sunday, October 10.

The event will feature 18 teams including: Columbus State, Montevallo, North Georgia, Faulkner, LeTourneau, Mobile, Berry, Spring Hill, Lee, Huntingdon, Piedmont, Jackson State, Savannah State, Shorter University, and University of West Georgia.

The women are in hopes of improving from their 14th place finish from the CSU Fall Golf Classic where TSU shot rounds of 460 and 484 for a tournament total of 944. The Tigers currently shoot a combined 426 average (138-over-par) in two events played.

Jamie Pierce leads the team only playing in one event on the season posting a 81.5 (10-over) and one top-ten finish. Laura Brown and Bria Norris follow on the team's stat sheet playing four rounds total in two events on the year. Brown posts a 90.0 average (18-over) and Norris holds a 94.3 average (22-over) rounding out TSU's top three players.

Up next, the women will head to Savannah, Ga. to play in the Savannah State Fall Classic from November 5-7.
