Nashville --- LaToya Moppins and Danielle Stewart finished tied for 36th at the Ohio Valley Conference Golf tournament to lead Tennessee State University.
The event was held on the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. It marked the 15th time the OVC Women’s Golf Championship has been held.
Moppins (103-95-94) and Stewart (95-93-104) both shot a 76-over-par 292 for a two-way tie for 36th. Mary Brigance (106-113-98) and Genesis Fitzgerald (107-104-106) each carded 317s.
Tennessee State University finished eighth with a total of 1218.
Jacksonville State claimed its fourth straight OVC women’s golf championship. The Gamecocks fourth consecutive title broke a record of three straight championships achieved by Murray State from each 1997-99 and 2002-04. JSU has now won the title in four of the five years in which it has been a member of the OVC.
With its victory, Jacksonville State earned the OVC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Championship.
Murray State finished as the runner-up followed by Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Samford, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay and Tennessee State.
